Dear Parents

Hello and welcome to the 2009-2010 school year. My name is Martin McHugh and I am entering my second year as the math teacher for the 4th - 8th grade levels.

Even though this is my second year teaching math at Julie Rohr Academy I have had some level of involvement with the school for twenty-four years.  I am the fourth son of Julie McHugh and since the day I was born I have never spent more than about a month away from the academy.  I was raised by the JRA family and it is such a surreal experience to make the switch from student to teacher within that family.  I am currently working side by side with instructors that taught me more than 15 years ago.

After graduating Julie Rohr Academy in 1999 I attended Sarasota High School for 4 years while working as an afternoon aide at JRA.  I then furthered my education with an Associate of Arts degree from Manatee Community College while still continuing to work in the afternoons.  After graduating from MCC in 2005 I moved to Tampa to pursue a Bachelors degree from the University of South Florida but attended classes at the USF Sarasota campus as well.  Even during my years at USF I still managed to come back to JRA to substitute when needed and also work holidays and summers.  I graduated from USF in 2007 with a Bachelors degree in Business Finance and Management.

I worked in the business field for about 6 months and realized it wasn't for me.  I decided to come back to Julie Rohr Academy to take over as the math teacher for the later elementary and middle school levels.  I have since received my temporary teaching certificate in mathematics for levels 1-9.

I am so thankful for all the experiences Julie Rohr Academy has given me and am looking forward to creating new ones with the staff, students, and parents of the JRA family today.  I look forward to seeing all of you at the start of the school year.

Sincerely

Martin McHugh
